  • Connecting Hearts is a statewide non-profit with a mission to find each and every child a permanent, loving home. We strive to obtain permanency for children in foster care whether that is through reunification, kinship care, or adoption. We act as a liaison between all likeminded organizations across the state of Virginia to further our mission through collaborations. To help us achieve this, we focus on the following:

    • Increase education, awareness, and advocacy for adoption and foster care
    • Educate the public as to the positive values of adoption and foster care
    • Provide the educational programs that will strengthen area adoption and foster care nonprofits
    • Find affordable ways for adoption to happen and lessen the financial burden to families
    • Facilitate connections between organizations and the Virginia Department of Social Services
    • Execute an annual conference to include all related agencies and Virginia’s Adoption Champion
    • Create community events with awareness and components
    • Focus on general and strategic recruitment of families

  • Families Reaching Out Group was established in 2009 as a support group to help foster families.  It has been a wild ride since that time. In 2011 we became a 501 (c) (3) and opened up Froggy'sCloset  which provides clothing, diapers, books, toys, strollers, high chairs, cribs and more for foster children, children at risk and children in need with an appropriate referral.  In 2017 we filled over 11000 requests.

Families Reaching Out Group has a monthly support group for foster families.  We give out $150.00 to one child each month for an extracurricular activity.

Each month we do a drive for a specific item.  Example: February was Footwear Month - we have collected 649 New Pairs of Shoes.  Froggy's Closet wants the children to be proud of what they are wearing- so we are very particular about what we accept.  The clothing is new or very gently used. We only give out NEW socks and underwear.

Our latest project is "THE LILY PAD". It is a large room above Froggy's Closet that we have put in a kitchen, living area and conference table.  We are going to offer the space for birthday parties for foster children. We will also have a Christmas party, support meetings and fundraisers in the space.

  • Matthew's Child was established to support, advocate, educate, and enhance our foster and adoptive community.

It is our belief that it takes a community to raise a child. Everyone is involved, be it parents, social workers, teachers, therapists, neighbors, friends, or coaches. Not everyone is called to take children into their home; but those that are need support from others. A friendly word of encouragement or a cup a coffee; a night out to go on a real date (outside of the grocery store); to feel supported by members of their communities as they work together to make a difference for children and families. You are the answer to that need. Visit us online: http://www.matthewschild.com/

  • Patrick Henry Family Services (PHFS) has been working to keep children safe and families strong in central Virginia since 1961. Our mission is to meet the needs of every child before us, resulting in the maximum impact for that child, in the shortest time possible, in the most efficient way possible, always in a loving and professional manner.

Patrick Henry Family Services has experienced significant growth in the past seven years. Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Homes (safe and loving home for kids with no other home) have continued to provide an ever increasing quality of residential care for kids from hard places. Hope for Tomorrow (Professional Christian Counseling) now has counseling centers in Farmville, Brookneal, Lynchburg, Bedford, Danville, South Boston, and Midlothian.  PHFS has added several services to our continuum of care; the newest is Expanded Families (uniquely better foster care). These seven years has also seen the establishment and growth of Safe Families for Children (a pilot of the church-led national family preservation program), Home of Hope (home for single mom’s and babies in crisis), and Hat Creek Camp (summer camp and year around programming).

As we partner with families and other agencies to help keep kids safe and families strong we are dedicated to following trauma informed care principles ensuring that Patrick Henry Family Services is helping in the most loving and professional manner possible.

  • Believing that every child deserves a healthy and happy childhood, Tidewater Friends of Foster Care (TFFC) is committed to enriching the lives of foster children in our community. Foster children often miss out on key elements of a healthy and happy childhood, such as a stable family environment, extracurricular activities and enrichment programs, and individualized tutoring/mentoring, due to lack of a family placement, funding limitations, and insufficient access to supplementary programs.

The mission of TFFC is to address these issues through

Targeted outreach to increase the number of available family foster homes, thereby reducing the need for group-home placements for children

Providing funding for enrichment programs that bridge the gap between what is available from public services and those elements that are essential to a healthy and happy childhood.

Through its philanthropy, TFFC strives to ensure all children in the foster care system have the best childhood possible.
