CWLA Fostering Education from Home - Part I: Research Informed Strategies that Help & Part II: Applying Strategies in the Real World

06-10-2020 1:00 pm -2:30 pm
Free
This webinar meets 2 times.
Wed, Jun 10, 2020 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM EDT

With children out of school and at home, caregivers have been asked to assume many new roles and responsibilities. Among these is the role of teacher. Even under the best of circumstances, youth who have experienced foster care often have difficulty navigating the demands of school. Now, as schools move into remote learning mode, caregivers must find ways to keep their students motivated, engaged, and learning (as well as fed, entertained, and supported in coping with the traumas of this "new normal"). How can we create routines that allow us to help our kids with assignments and virtual classes? Part I (May 27) of this two-part webinar session will offer research-informed strategies that caregivers, social workers, educators, and advocates can implement to address some of the common challenges that arise with schooling from home. Part II (June 10) of this webinar will focus on practice and implementation of the practical tools for parents and caregivers introduced in Part I. To review the video resources shared in Part I, visit https://www.drgwenbass.com/fostering-education-from-home Presenter: Gwen Bass, Ph.D., Director, Teacher Leadership Division, Professional and Graduate Education, Mount Holyoke College This program has been approved for one (1) CEU per webinar by the NASW Washington State Chapter. Licensed Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Mental Health Counselors are eligible. Provider number is #1975-176. For each webinar, there is a $20 fee for CEUs for non-members and a $10 fee for CWLA members. If you are interested in CEUs, please e-mail memberservices@cwla.org for details.

CANCELLED: Camp Together Forever

Free! $10 refundable deposit required

UPDATE :

Dear Families,
It is with deepest regret that we announce the cancellation of this year’s two summer Family Camps. This decision was not made lightly. The purpose of these camps is to provide families opportunities for fellowship, connection, relaxation, and togetherness. During this time of a widespread COVID-19 pandemic it became clear that we could not provide families with the same level of quality experience we strive for while also providing appropriate protection for everyone. I do hope that you will join us next year as we regroup and celebrate family and friends with renewed energy and hope in 2021. Our tentative Family Camp dates for 2021 will be June 11-13TH and July 16-18TH .  We will be returning all deposit checks sent to us.
We cannot wait to connect again and celebrate your amazing families next year!

Families formed through foster care, adoption, and kinship care are invited to attend Family Camp in 2020! A full weekend of family fun is planned, don’t miss out!

There is no cost for families to attend. Lodging, meals, and supplies are provided. Registration is required and will open in Spring.

For more information please contact Oma McReynolds at omcreynolds@depaulcr.org or call 540-381-1848 ext. 4017

Important Information

While this camp is free, we require a $10 deposit per person to hold your space. This check will be returned to you at camp. If you wish to cancel, you must do so 30 days prior to the camp, or your check will be cashed as a donation towards future camps.
