Mindfulness, as defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn, is

"the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment."

Discover and encourage the profound impact that mindfulness can have on your child. Children grades K-5 are invited to participate in this children's mindfulness workshop.

Mindfulness has been proven to help children with:

  • Regulating their emotions
  • Dealing with difficult situations
  • Improving social and emotional skills

Facilitated by Elise Kindya, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and children's mindset coach, this workshop will help your child (and you if you choose to participate) utilize mindfulness quickly and in fun ways.

Admission is $10 per child -- parent participation is welcome but not necessary!

Deborah Gold, university creative writing professor and author of Counting Down: A Memoir of Foster Parenting and Beyond, will conduct an introductory life-writing workshop, focusing on the experiences of foster and adoptive parents, kinship caregivers and professionals who raise and work with children and youth in care. Written exploration can help caregivers and professionals process the triumphs, losses and challenging moments involved. While much of the workshop will be interactive, a replicable 'photo album' format and process instructions will enable particpants to 're-teach' the workshop in other settings. Reflective writing as a means of self-care and personal growth will also be discussed. The fee includes a copy of Ms. Gold's book Counting Down to each participant.

While older youth and young adults are welcome to register as participants, no child care is available for younger children.
