Strong + Stable
About the Topic
Injury from falling is one of the Baby Boomer generation’s biggest concerns. And rightly so. According to the council on Aging Care, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall every 11 seconds. But there are things you can do to minimize the risk of falling and breaking a bone. In the Stable + Strong workshop, Mary Burruss, M.Ed, RYT 500, will present strategies based in Eastern Medical theory that can augment medical treatment strategies to help prevent bone injury from falling.
In this workshop you will learn:
- Causes of decreases in bone density from an Eastern and Western medical viewpoint
- Fall prevention strategies (increasing balance, flexibility and strength)
- Information on increasing bone density surrounding exercise, stress management and eating habits.
This workshop could include a demonstration and/or audience participation in the 12 yoga poses found by Dr. Loren Fishman of Columbia University to maintain or build bone density, statistics surrounding bone density issues, hand-outs and other resources on relevant topics, plus a question and answer period at the end.
